Specialist in General and Emergency Surgery with a second-level Master’s degree in Endocrine Surgery.

STEFANO SPIEZIA, MD,  is the Director of the Division of Endocrine and Eco Guided Surgery at the Hospital del Mare in Naples, Director of the Regional Reference Center for Thyroid Surgery in Campania, Italy. Dr. Spiezia is a Contract Professor of Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Thyroid Treatments at the University of Turin, Italy. He graduated from the Federico II University of Naples, specializing in General and Emergency Surgery, and completed the University Master’s degree in Endocrine Surgery at the University Vanvitelli of Naples. Dr. Spiezia is the Secretary-general of the Board of Directors of SIUMB (Italian Society of Ultrasounds in Medicine and Biology) and is the Director of the International School “Save Your Thyroid” for training in ultrasound and ultrasound guided procedures for thyroid and cervical pathologies. He serves as the regional representative on the Board of Directors of SIUEC (United Italian Societies of Endocrine Surgery). Since 2022, he has been a member of the “Visiting Professor Program” at the Saudi German Hospital in Cairo, where, in June 2023, he founded the first international branch of the SIUMB School “Save your Thyroid” in Northern Africa and initiated the first training courses on MW treatment for thyroid and parathyroid nodules.

He is particularly experienced in minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted surgery of the thyroid, parathyroids, and adrenal glands.

Dr. Spiezia has been one of the pioneers in Europe in the thermal ablation of thyroid nodules since 1998.

He is currently invited as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) at many international congresses and as a supervisor to initiate clinical trials of thermal ablation in hospitals in Europe, the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In his hospital, the Hospital del Mare, patients are admitted for surgery and robotic surgery, as well as for outpatient treatments such as MW, RFA, PLA, and PEI. Dr. Spiezia is an active member of the Tirnet network for molecular testing on cytological samples, determining the value of this test to spread the concept of tailored surgery in thyroid cancer. Since April 2023, he has been the first in the world to initiate clinical trials for the non-thermal treatment of thyroid nodules using irreversible electroporation (IRE) with Nano Pulse technology (NPT).
